International women’s forum "Dialogue without borders"
For the first time International women’s forum «Dialogue without borders» took place in Volgograd on 14-16 of March 2012 and united more than 250 female leaders from six countries of the world. The forum was initiated by the City Women Council and organized by the administration of Volgograd and Volgograd City Duma. Its work resulted in the resolution confirming the creation on the territory of Volgograd of the international and intermunicipal resource center to serve as a permanent site for meetings of women-leaders from municipalities of twin and partner cities of Volgograd.
The female representatives of the twin and partner cities of Volgograd – Dijon (France), Chemnitz, Cologne (Germany), Turin (Italy), Vilnius (Lithuania) and Lagos (Nigeria) took part in the forum “Dialogue without borders”. Russia was represented by Moscow, Astrakhan, Elista, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and Ulyanovsk. The opening ceremony and the plenary session of the forum were held in the assembly hall of the Volgograd branch of the Russian Academy of the National Economy and Public Service under the President of the Russian Federation. The following representatives took part in its work: the director of educational programs of the “New Eurasia” foundation (Moscow) Ms. Nargis Valamat-Zade; deputy director of the division for social protection of the population, family policy and social services of the population Ms. Zinaida Merzhoeva; the chair of Volgograd regional women council Ms. Lyudmila Kondrahina; the expert of the initiative «A child friendly hospital», the honored doctor of Russia, candidate of medical science Ms. Tatyana Berdikova; the head of the secretariat of the Parliament of the Republic of Kalmykia Ms. Saglar Bakinova; the vice mayor of Dijon (France) for health and solidarity, the deputy chair of the Council of Burgundy Ms. Francoise Tenenbaum; the founding executive director of the NGO “ Life Impact Foundation International” from Lagos (Nigeria) Ms. Yemisi Joel-Osebor. In their reports, the speakers addressed the themes of social and family policy, defense of rights of women and children, maternity and childhood, development of education. After the plenary session, the delegates took part in the work of three sections: gender policy, women’s entrepreneurship, social and medical issues. The participants of the forum visited some social establishments of Volgograd, including the progymnasium № 2 in the Soviet district and the “Club of senior citizens” where the working experience of Volgograd specialists was introduced to them. On March, 16 the round table “Volgograd is an age friendly city. The perspectives” was held in the assembly hall of Volgograd administration, the vice mayor of Dijon Ms. Francoise Tenenbaum took part in it. On the same day the deputy of Vilnius City Council and the chair of the Council of Russian compatriots in Vilnius Ms. Olga Gorshkova met the students and professors of Volgograd State University and discussed the following theme: «Preservation of the Russian language and the education in the Russian language in the former Soviet Union».
The work of the forum resulted in a press conference held in Volgograd administration during which the participants emphasized that though there seem to be differences, the problems of the women in the world are the same. The most global among them are support of maternity and childhood, strengthening the image of a woman in power, promotion of women’s leadership, and defense against domestic violence. In order to seek constructive ways to overcome political, economic and social problems it is significant to consolidate the efforts of the international women’s community. The established friendly links between Volgograd its twin and partner cities contribute to resolving this issue. The deputy head of Volgograd administration Ms. Irina Elinetskaya stated that the main directions for the activity of women’s public organizations of the twin and partner cities of Volgograd are reflected in the resolution adopted at the plenary session. The women from different countries supported the idea of the creation in Volgograd of the international and intermunicipal resource center and the opening on its base of the international site for information exchange and its effective use to promote and strengthen the women’s leadership in twin and partner cities of Volgograd. The Second International women’s forum “Dialogue without borders” will take place in April 2013. Women-leaders from 12 countries of the world confirmed their participation in it.
